Bloodchild Class Work

Q: What was your reaction to the text you just read?

A: At first I thought the text was about a symbiosis between aliens and humans then I freaked out a bit about humans being host animals to the aliens young. I saw the aliens as parasitic spiders that have the ability to persuade humans like vampires to carry their young for them. The story mentions a human preserve so I assume humans are a dying species and Terran (Earth is assumed) has been taken over by these spider humanoids.

Q: What connections did you make with the story? Discuss the elements of the work which you were able to connect.

A: I made the connection between the spiders being human males and women being the host animals. The fear the humans have of the spider taking advantage of them and not caring for them is a very human and feminine emotion. The fear of birth is also a very real female fear. The spiders have to prove that they are not just using the humans as host animals and that they truly do care.

Q: What changes would you make to adapt this story into another medium? What medium would you use? What Changes would you make?

A: I would change the spider aliens into something less terrifying to adapt the story into an animated film. Sometimes beautiful things can be more terrifying than creature blatantly created to scare us. Something elvish, pale, like the cloning aliens from the Starwars prequels.  I would give the humans an industrial regiment taking care of the aliens as well. This would be to continue the theme of human male and female relationships. Old fashioned standards of relationships have females domestically taking care of the male. That would add to natural relationship questions of the female. Is taking care of the male really worth it? Am I being a helpful significant other because I love them or am I being used? Its all about the semantics of preceiveing a relationships. One little word or change in way of thinking about a relationship changes the entire dynamic.
